Did you know that rheumatoid arthritis commonly begins in the hands and wrists? Early symptoms can cause pain, discomfort and inflammation. These can be further aggravated by cold, wet and damp weather often seen in the winter months.

Dressing in layers and being mindful to protect sensitive parts of your body like your hands, is crucial during colder months. It can be difficult to find comfortable and easy to use gloves for those with pain, inflammation and joint deformities.

Joint changes can make it even more difficult because the ‘typical’ gloves a person with no arthritis wears, doesn’t always work with someone who has physical limitations.

This was a source of aggravation for me when my hands started to give me more problems. For the past few years, I found that the traditional gloves I adored wearing in the winter weren’t doable for me anymore.

I tested out several different types and the ones that I found to be the best for arthritis are mittens, flip top mittens and arm warmers. These all allowed me to wear my wrist guards, splints and anything else I needed without feeling constricted or in pain.

With winter in full swing, I wanted to share some gloves that those with arthritis can benefit from. Many are on sale now as the fashion industry gears up to introduce spring merchandise, so grab them while you can.

These are mainly for us women but many of these stores carry comfortable items for men, children, toddlers and babies as well.

These gloves come in hot pink and a classic ivory. I have the ivory version and are nice for a dressy occasion. The hot pink is really fun too and the ruffles add a unique, playful touch! They are fingerless gloves, so for really cold weather these won’t protect the tips of your fingers.
